Who we are
Island is an app made by SideKit, Inc., 6th Floor, 136 Madison Ave, New York, New York. Where this policy says we, it means that company. This policy covers the app and this website.
Short version
Island: Screen Time does not sell your data. The data we collect is to provide the service and give us insights on how to prioritize development.
What we hold when you sign in
Once you have an account, our servers store:
- Your account ID, and the handle you chose.
- Your phone number, used to authenticate your account.
- Your daily total time in tracked apps, how many apps you track, your daily limit, your current streak, and your badge rank. The apps you selected are not stored.
- A copy of your island for each device you play on, with the device’s name, so friends can visit it.
- Friend requests you have sent or received, and a record of island visits.
- The token that lets a notification reach your device, if you have turned notifications on.
- Your farmer portrait settings, if you build one.
- If you joined the beta waitlist, when you joined and when you were let in.
If you build your farmer from a photo, the app sends that photo to our API and on to the image provider named below, only so a portrait can be suggested. We do not store it and do not keep it after the request finishes. The provider’s own retention and safety review policies apply to the request while it is with them.
Purchases
If you buy Island Pro, the payment goes through Apple or Google, and your card and payment details never reach us. A record of your purchase is kept in RevenueCat (the subscription management platform we use). That record is kept against your account ID if you are signed in, or against a random ID created on your device if you are not.
Community boards
In our community Discord server, our bot can post the players currently at the top of global boards, such as the longest streak or the highest badge, by handle. Only the handle you chose and your figure on that board appear. Posts already made stay in that server after an account is deleted.
Analytics
We keep aggregate operational counts, such as the fact that the app was launched or opened. These are not tied to an account or to a persistent device identifier.
The rest is product analytics: which features people reach, where they stop, whether the app is working, ordinary device facts such as your model and operating system version, and recordings of some app sessions. These are recorded against an analytics identifier stored and read on your device. Wherever you are, you can turn analytics off at any time from the app’s Settings. If your device is set to a UK or EEA region, they stay off until you consent.
When you are signed in, analytics are recorded against your account. When you are signed out, they are recorded against a random id.
On this website we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It stores nothing on your device, no cookie and no identifier. It shows us aggregates about the site’s visitors.
Who else touches it
Every provider below works to our instructions and holds only what its job needs. The purposes are the commitment; the names are who we use today.
| Purpose | Who |
|---|---|
| Running the API, serving this website, counting visits to it | Cloudflare |
| Storage | Neon |
| Sending email | Resend |
| Product analytics and session recordings | PostHog |
| SMS | Twilio |
| Managing subscriptions and purchase records | RevenueCat |
| Artificial Intelligence | OpenAI |
| Payments and notifications | Apple and Google |
| Community server | Discord |
| Running the community bot | Railway |
We also use ordinary business tools, such as email and team messaging, in which your handle may appear incidentally.
Data Retention
Session recordings are kept for a limited period, currently 30 days. Other usage data may be stored indefinitely. Turning analytics off stops future collection; deleting your account or resetting your island, below, erases what was collected before.
Deleting your data
Deleting your account in the app erases everything above: your account, your daily totals, your island backups, your friendships, your analytics, and your purchase records. Deleting your data has the steps.
Deleting your account does not cancel an Island Pro subscription; cancel it from your App Store or Google Play settings. Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchases, under their own policies.
Your handle may remain in internal team records, such as messages between us about waitlist and account activity, and in community board posts already made in our Discord server.
If you have never signed in, resetting your island in the app will still attempt to delete any analytics collected from that device. A purchase record made while signed out can’t be reached that way, so write to us to have it erased.
Applying to work with us
If you send us a drawing from the sprite challenge, we store the email you applied with, the drawing, anything you wrote about it, how many strokes it took, and when you sent it. We use these only to consider your application, and email you to confirm each attempt arrived.
Until you send it, your drawing, what you wrote and your email stay in your browser’s storage on your device, so a refresh doesn’t lose them.
We delete each attempt 120 days after you send it. To have yours erased sooner, write to us from the email you applied with.
Why we are allowed to hold it
If you are in the UK or the EEA, the law asks us to name a reason for each use, so:
- Your account and everything it carries, we hold in order to give you the thing you signed up for. Without it there is no account, no leaderboard, and no island to visit.
- A purchase, and the record of it, we hold in order to provide what you paid for.
- A photo you choose for your farmer is used with your permission, and only to suggest the portrait.
- A drawing you send with an application, and the email that comes with it, we hold in order to consider that application, which you asked us to do.
- In the UK and the EEA, analytics and session recordings stand on your consent. They stay off until you give it, and you can withdraw it at any time from Settings. Elsewhere they stand on our own interest in knowing whether the app works and where people give up on it, and the same Settings switch turns them off. The deletion tools above clear what was already collected. Counting visits to this website stands on that same interest; it involves nothing stored on your device.
- Internal team records naming your handle stand on our own interest in operating and understanding the service. You can object at any time by writing to us.
- Community boards stand on our own interest in running a community around the app. They use only the handle you chose, and you can object at any time by writing to us.
- We keep enough to stop abuse and attacks on the service, again on our own interest in it staying up.
- Anything beyond these we would ask you for first, and you could take that permission back as easily as you gave it.
We are a US company and the database holding your account is in the US, so data about you leaves the UK and the EEA to reach us. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses the law provides for exactly that.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, export it, or have it erased, and to object to how we use it. The app’s own deletion tools cover erasure. For anything else, write to us and we will answer within the time the law where you live allows.
If you live in California: we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We never have. You may also ask what we hold, have it corrected or deleted, and we will not treat you any differently for asking.
Children
The app is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will erase it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
